Shenzhen Kexing Biopharm has started a Phase III clinical trial of an inhaled Interferon aIb therapy for respiratory syncytial virus-associated lower respiratory infections (pneumonia, bronchiolitis) in children. The nebulized product delivers active ingredients to the lesion site, an efficient and rapid means of administration, but nebulized products are not generally approved for use in children. In earlier trials, the therapy showed high levels of the drug in the lesion site, but low plasma concentration and excellent safety, according to Kexing. More details....

Suzhou VesiCURE Therapeutics reports its mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles showed efficacy in a mouse model of ulcerative colitis. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are pluripotent stem cells that can modulate immune cells in their microenvironment by secreting growth factors, chemokines and extracellular vesicles (EVs). EVs have been shown to repair damaged intestinal epithelial barriers and recover GI function in intestinal bowel disease. VesiCURE recently published an article that reviewed the use of its MSC-EV technology in an animal UC test. More details....

Sino Biopharm announced a strategic partnership with Germany’s Boehringer Ingelheim to develop and commercialize Boehringer 's innovative oncology pipeline in mainland China. The agreement includes three clinical stage assets and an unspecified number of preclinical projects, all of them aimed at oncology targets. Sino Biopharm actively seeks in-licensing deals from other companies. Last year, it signed a commercialization deal with Shanghai’s Investisbio for a KRAS G12C inhibitor and another agreement for a portfolio of 12 innovative Pfizer drugs. More details....

Shanghai Junshi Biosciences was approved to market a combination of toripalimab and axitinib as a first-line treatment for medium to high risk unresectable or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The approval makes toripalimab the first immunotherapy available for renal carcinoma in China. Toripalimab is an anti-PD-1 mAb that blocks PD-1 interactions with its ligands, PD-L1 and PD-L2 while offering an endocytosis function. In a China Phase III trial, the toripalimab-axitinib combination reported a nearly twice-as-long progression-free survival compared to sunitinib monotherapy. More details....

D3 Bio, a Shanghai oncology biotech, closed a $62 million Series A+ financing round, a large amount for an early-stage company in the past few years. The funding will use the funds to ramp up development of D3 Bio's preclinical assets and a global clinical trial of D3S-001, a next-gen small molecule KRAS G12C inhibitor that the company believes has best-in-class potential. The A+ round was led by Medicxi, a European life sciences investment firm. In 2020, D3 Bio raised an impressive $200 million in a Series A round. More details....
